Fiat 126 Engine, drive

ENGINE, DRIVELINE – For the drive used modernized power unit from "500" with the symbol 126 A.000. It was a four-stroke, two-cylinder, in-line air-cooled engine, which is built longitudinally behind the rear axle of the vehicle. The hull is made of aluminum alloy, and two separate ribbed iron cylinders. Cast ductile iron crankshaft supported in two main bearings had two cranks pointing in one direction, and between them there was a counterweight. Uniform ribbed head cast from light alloy. An overhead valve timing system with a shaft located in the fuselage and driven by a single-row chain was used. The power supply system uses a single-pass precipitation carburetor and a dry air filter with a paper cartridge. The ignition system uses a traditional ignition apparatus with a distributor and a centrifugal ignition advance angle regulator.
Engine displacement compared to model 500 increased to 594 cm3, enlarging the diameter of the cylinder with 67,4 mm to 73,5 mm. The piston stroke was still 70 mm. At the compression ratio 7,5 the engine reached maximum power 17 kW (23 KM) by 4800 rpm and maximum torque 38 Nm at 3400 obr./min. Cooling was provided by a blower with a rotor, mounted on the axis of the generator and driven by a V-belt from the crankshaft. Cylinders and head are sheathed with tin covers, to direct the airflow. Cooling intensity is regulated by thermostat, which controlled the throttle, placed on the outlet of warm air. In the engine lubrication system, the oil only passed through the centrifugal filter. A direct current of 230 W, and a starter with power 0,5 kW was started by means of a rod.
The drivetrain was powered by a single-disc dry clutch with a central disc spring. The clutch disc did not have a torsional vibration damper.
The four-speed two-shaft gearbox was locked with the engine. Synchronized only gears II, III and IV. In the same, made of light alloy, the housing housed the main gearbox with a differential. The bevel main gearbox with arc teeth had a gear ratio 4,875 (39/8), and a differential transmitting propulsion on a semi-axle two satellites. Each of the drive shafts is equipped with two joints; from the side of the differential two-stone, and from the wheel side elastic rubber-metal.
