Car in the workshop

Car in the workshop

Sometimes you have to put the car in the workshop, e.g.. in order to perform the maintenance activities provided for under the guarantee or then, when there is not enough time, experience or special tools necessary to perform the repair. Even if the car is repaired by a mechanic in the workshop, you can influence it, so that it is made in accordance with your expectations. This chapter provides useful information during a visit and conversations in the workshop.

Authorised workshop and other workshops

■ The choice of a workshop is entirely up to the user. Both authorized workshops, like most of the others, they are properly prepared, to repair, change the oil, friction inserts, tires and shock absorbers. These other workshops are usually cheaper. Is important, that the owner of the workshop is properly qualified and registered, e.g.. in the guild of automotive crafts.

■ During the warranty period, technical inspections must be performed only by an authorized VW workshop. This also applies to, fire with few exceptions, repair. Minor sheet metal work, or spraying can be done naturally anywhere, also alone. But remember, that and then there may be a possible dispute as to the loss of warranty.

Repair order in writing

■ Before visiting the workshop, write down any disturbing symptoms and malfunctions, what you have noticed in your car. Giving back the car, discuss this list with your customer service center or mechanic. Always ask, if you do not understand something in what your interlocutor says. Demonstrate the faults and symptoms found to the mechanic.

■ Be sure to describe the scope of work precisely. Orders of the type "preparation of the car to extend the validity of the registration certificate” or "pre-holiday inspection” they usually end up with a misunderstanding when paying for the work, which were not necessary in your opinion.

■ Please submit all orders in writing. They should include a specification of the scope of repairs requested by you. Always ask for a copy of the assignment.
