Wider and longer
Characteristic elements, the headlights are eye-catching in the 4th generation Golfs (combined with indicators and fog lamps) with transparent diffusing lenses, wide-spaced rear combination lamps and a license plate recess in the rear bumper. Golf IV is about 13 cm longer and about 4 centimeters wider than its predecessor.
Increasing the track by four centimeters improved the comfort inside the car. The trunk in the kombilimuzy has 330 liters of capacity, a with the rear seat back folded down – 1184 liters.
Combi version (Variant) with the same body width, it is slightly longer, which creates additional transport possibilities. The trunk has 460 liters of capacity, a with the rear seat back folded down 1470 liters. The estate car, however, is heavier, consumes more fuel and accelerates worse than a limousine.
Travel safety and comfort
The fourth generation of Golfs has many elements that increase the safety of travelers. These are the front airbags for the driver and passenger, side airbags and front seat belt pretensioners. Additional reinforcements in the doors increase passive safety. An important innovation on the Golf IV was the use of the lsofix standard; child seats are securely fastened directly to the body. Like ski bindings, they are clipped into special loops under the rear seat. Driving comfort is also improved by isolating the front axle mounting brackets from the body with rubber elements, which dampen the vibrations previously transmitted to the interior of the car.
