Crooked rims

Can the curved aluminium rim be straightened? This operation seems doubtful – aluminum casting can reportedly break.

Straightening alloy wheels is difficult and does not have to bring an effect. Aluminum rims are more massive than steel ones and although their material should be plastic, this is not always the case. Hence the straightened rim made of cast aluminum, is no longer completely sure. Microcracking can cause air to escape, (is a harmless case), but also much more serious effects – the rim may fall apart while driving. Hence, we do not recommend straightening the cast rim, if the deformation is greater, than just a slight bend of its edge. Rims from very expensive, lightweight and durable materials, such as magnesium alloys and pressed aluminium, not repairable at all.
