Fuel tank replacement

The fuel tank cannot be emptied by sucking the gasoline through the filler pipe. as the ball check valve located therein prevents the insertion of the tube. Proceed as follows to remove and install the tank.

■ Disconnect the battery ground cable.

■ Remove the tank cover.

■ To empty the tank, clamp the fuel lines with the squeezers: suction and return.

■ By loosening the zip ties, disconnect both fuel lines.

■ Open the clamps and drain the fuel into a clean container.

■ In engines 1.3 i 1,6 D unscrew the front muffler with the pipe at the articulated flange from the front exhaust pipe. Remove the disconnected part of the exhaust system from the hanger and fold it to the left.

■ Disconnect the electric wire from the fuel level sensor

■ In the engine 1,2 unscrew the front exhaust pipe from the manifold.

■ In the place where the tie rod connects with the emergency brake cable catch, measure the screw-in depth of the adjusting nut on the threaded part of the tie rod. (the nut must go back to its previous position after being screwed in again). Remove the nut and remove the shorter brake cable from the hitch

■ Unscrew the filler pipe from the floor plate.

■ Loosen the clamps.

■ Pull the filling pipe together with the overflow pipe off the tank neck.

■ Remove the long deaeration hose from the attachment points on the pipe socket and on the tank.

Support the tank with a car hoist and unscrew both fastening straps. Lower the reservoir a little.

■ Loosen the clamps and remove the deaeration and overflow lines from the tank.

■ Remove the fuel tank.

The tank is installed in the reverse order.
