Peugeot 106 test

Three 106s were subjected to the observed operation – one in the previous version of the body from the year 1994 and two copies from the year 1997.
Model of the year 1994 is driven by a carburetor engine with a capacity of 954 dm3 and power 33 kW, which works with a four-speed gearbox. The drive unit reacts vividly to pressing the gas pedal, satisfying themselves with small
the amount of fuel consumed. Driving skillfully around the city, can be used 6 litres per 100 km, i.e. less than the manufacturer declares. The four-speed gearbox is well matched to the characteristics of the engine, which ensures good performance, although to maintain driving dynamics, higher revs should be maintained. A car with this engine clearly feels every passenger on board. Auto for mileage 50 thousands of kilometers performed excellently. Technical inspections were carried out regularly every 10 thousand kilometers. During the first two, the engine oil and filters were replaced. The first set of brake pads was changed after the mileage 30 Thousand. In this copy, the bulbs of the instrument panel lighting and the backlight of the switches often burned out.. In the second year of use, after the warranty expired, the air blowing fan broke down, which had to be replaced with a new one. After driving 50 thousands of kilometers on bumpy Polish roads it was necessary to replace the metal-gu-m bushings of the control arms and the sealants of the drive shafts and put on a sealing band connecting the exhaust pipe with the silencer. After traveling 60 thousands of kilometers of brake discs replaced. During operation, the cable of the manual starting device was adjusted several times. This car has already passed over 75 thousands of kilometers and is in good technical condition, everything speaks for it, that it will continue to be operated.
The operation of cars purchased in the year is similar 1997. Car with a displacement engine 0,9 dm3 version Of Itinea with coded ignition interlock in three years drove 45 thousands of kilometers and performs well. During inspections, only the activities provided for in the maintenance program are carried out. In the third year of operation and in this unit, the air blowing fan into the cabin failed. Because it is an irreparable element, the only way to fix the fault is to replace.
The most surprises were made by the most expensive version – 106 Symbio with a power unit with a capacity of 1,1 dm3, modern control computer and ignition lock located in the key. The car completely failed after just two months. Although there was fuel in the tank, and the starter bravely rotated the crankshaft, the engine could not be started. Polish service mechanics worked on the problem, but the task exceeded their skills. The vehicle stayed for over three weeks in various authorized workshops in Warsaw and was repaired only by a mechanic from a service center in France.. Fortunately, the assistance system worked perfectly and a replacement vehicle was substituted for the time of repair..
The cause of the malfunction was the incorrect contact of the electrical system connections. After the repair, the car drove over 30 thousands of kilometers and in addition to inspections, no additional repairs were carried out in it. The engine is more dynamic than previously described and satisfies itself on average 7 liters of fuel in urban traffic.
What is very important and worth emphasizing, in the conditions of the Polish winter, cars were garaged "under a cloud" and even during severe frosts there were no problems with starting or freezing the locks in the doors and fuel filler.
From my operational observations of the entire Peugeot family, it follows, that the smallest representative was the cheapest to use and the least emergency, and the measure of good market reputation is a small loss of value when reselling a used car.
