Demolition of the suspension – Fiat Uno
■ Clamp the suspension strut in a vice near the steering knuckle arm.
■ Disconnect the crossover from the column.
■ Unscrew the brake caliper.
■ Unscrew the brake disc from the hub and remove it
■ Unscrew the metal cover of the brake disc from the steering knuckle.
■ Loosen the ball joint nut on the control arm and press the ball joint out with a special tool 1847038000.
■ Remove rocker arm and check, is not deformed. In addition, check the play in the joint and the condition of the rubber bushings. In case of damage, replace the complete swingarm.
■ Press the removed column into a suitable device, until the top cup of the spring is loose.
■ Unscrew the piston rod of the shock absorber from the support. The piston rod must then be held with a tool 1857154000.
■ Remove the support and release the compression of the spring. Remove the spring from the shock absorber.
■ In the event of damage, the suspension strut should always be replaced as a complete unit. If the spring has cracks or is deformed, it should be replaced in a set with springs with the same color marking. Damaged shock absorbers cannot be repaired and must be replaced simultaneously on both sides of the axle.
The suspension strut is assembled in the reverse order. Make sure that the spring is properly seated on the rubber pads.
