Fiat Uno – Front suspension

FRONT SUSPENSION

The front suspension of the Fiat Uno consists of Mc Pherson struts and lower wishbones attached to the support beam, which in turn is bolted to the body.

The suspension strut consists of a telescopic shock absorber, springs and upper supports, which is also the point of leading of the switch. The control arms are flexibly fixed by metal-rubber bushings and can be connected with a stabilizer.

Removal / installation of the suspension

■ Bring the car to the service and repair channel (or a jack) and remove the front end kit from the side of the strut or rocker arm, to be disassembled.

■ Unscrew the hub spigot nut.

■ Drain the brake fluid from the reservoir and disconnect the brake hose from the rigid one in the wheelhouse.

■ Disconnect the steering linkage ball joint from the steering arm. Use an extractor for this.

■ Unscrew the stabilizer (if) from the rocker arm.

■ Detach the swingarm from the support beam.

■ Pull the driveshaft out of the hub and hang it up high, so that it does not slip out of the gearbox.

■ Unscrew the top fastening of the shock absorber and remove the strut together with the swingarm.

The suspension assembly is carried out in the reverse order. The rear linkage of the swingarm and support beam is tightened with a torque 60 Nm, while the pin of the front linkage is tightened with torque 88 N m only after the car is lowered onto its wheels. The hub journal nut should always be replaced. The tightening torque is 265 N m: the nut then needs to be tightened. Bleed the front brake circuit and adjust the wheel alignment.
