Replacing the friction inserts – Fiat Uno

FRONT BRAKE
Replacing the friction inserts

There are two versions of front brakes in cars, different design of the guides. In the older version, the clamp guides are wedge-shaped and secured by springs, in the newer version, pins are used as guides. The steps for replacing the friction inserts vary depending on the type of brake.

Brake with wedges

■ Raise the front of the car and remove the front wheels.

■ Pull out the guide pins

■ Knock out the guides on the side

■ Remove the caliper body and take out the friction inserts. Do not leave the body hanging on the cable, but hook it to the suspension. The minimum thickness of the friction linings is 1,5 mm.

■ Retract the piston to the center of the body, while observing the pump reservoir, and remove excess fluid if necessary.

■ Fit new friction pads and caliper body.

■ Push in both clean and greased guides and secure with new linch pins.

■ After lowering the car onto the wheels, press the brake pedal several times in order to move the inserts against the disc. Always replace inserts in pairs, on both sides of the axle.

Brake with pins

■ Loosen the bolt nuts

■ Remove the clamp body and hook it to the suspension.

■ Remove the friction inserts and replace with new ones. The minimum thickness of the friction linings is 1,5 mm.
