TRANSISTOR IGNITION (ENGINE 1,3) – Opel Cadet

TRANSISTOR IGNITION (ENGINE 1,3)

Electronic engine ignition system 1.3 It is equipped with a contactless ignition distributor with a magnetoinductive sensor and an electronic module.

In the engine compartment there is a plate with the words "Leistungsges-teigerte Zundanlage”, which informs, with the engine running, do not touch any part of the ignition system. Any possible work should be carried out only with appropriate precautions.

Ignition distributor replacement

The ignition distributor is directly driven by the overhead camshaft. To replace the manifold, perform the following steps.

■ Unscrew the distributor cap.

■ Rolling the car with the gear engaged, bring the piston to the point of ignition. The notch on the pulley must align with the mark on the oil pump cover.

■ Unscrew the cap nut.

■ Remove the ignition distributor with its cap from the camshaft housing. When inserting the manifold, the alignment marks must match, in addition, the finger contact must align with the notch on the distributor housing. The driver on the distributor shaft, positioned eccentrically, it must enter the groove made in the camshaft. Insert the manifold into the seat and twist the cap slightly. Replace the dome and check that the ignition wires are securely seated in the sockets. Set the ignition and only then tighten the cap nut.

To disassemble the removed manifold, perform the following steps.

■ Unscrew the dome.

■ Unscrew the distributor finger from the shaft.

■ Pull the plug out of the module.

■ By loosening the two screws, remove the vacuum regulator.

■ Unscrew the electronic module fastened with two screws. Clean the removed elements. The assembly of the divider is performed in the reverse order. It is recommended to lubricate the place on the housing under the module with silicone grease, which will provide better heat dissipation.

Use an ohmmeter to check the inductive sensor, which is connected to test a short to ground. The ohmmeter is connected to the two-pin plug and to the distributor housing. Create a negative pressure in the regulator chamber. The ohmmeter should show infinity over the entire range of vacuum changes, otherwise, the ignition distributor must be replaced. Checking the continuity of the sensor circuit, The ohmmeter is connected to the plug. The instrument readings should be within the range 500.. 1500 Ω, otherwise, the ignition distributor must be replaced.
